Position Description

The Centre for Global Child Health provides a dedicated hub for global child health-focused activities and connects researchers and health-care professionals around the world. The Centre is dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families in resource-poor environments through collaboration in ground-breaking research, sustainable capacity building and the active communication of results through knowledge translation, and by promoting improved child health through advocacy and networks.

We are seeking an experienced Biostatistical Analyst. Reporting to the Principal Investigator via the Senior Program Manager, the Biostatistical Analyst will manage data and conduct statistical analyses for a range of projects pertaining to reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and nutrition in low resource settings. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative team environment, providing technical support to colleagues including biostatisticians and research associates, analysts and assistants.

Here’s What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Study design and formulation of data analysis plans
  • Data management and cleaning
  • Data analysis and interpretation of results
  • Presentation of analyses and results in text, tables and figures
  • Preparation of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals
  • Attend relevant meetings, rounds and workshops to increase knowledge and skills
  • Advise team members on study design, sample size estimation, analysis methods, and interpretation of results

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in biostatistics and formal training in epidemiology (e.g. in undergraduate or graduate courses) and practical experience in applying epidemiologic methods
  • Advanced quantitative health research skills, demonstrated through practical experience and including competency in:
  • Statistical analysis of complex survey data such as the Demographic & Health Surveys or Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (e.g., utilization of analytic approaches that account for clustering, stratification and weighting)
  • Statistical analysis of correlated data including longitudinal datasets, hierarchical/multilevel modeling, time series analysis, etc.
  • Methods for handling measurement error and missing data
  • Epidemiologic and statistical approaches to mediation analysis, evaluation of confounding, exploring effect modification (interaction), etc.
  • Advanced proficiency with a statistical software application (e.g. Stata, SAS, R)
  • Experience applying epidemiologic and biostatistical methods in the global health research context would be an asset
  • Ability to lead projects and advise colleagues on a range of methodological topics as needed
  • Proven ability to work with students/staff with limited statistics knowledge an asset
  • Demonstrated creativity and latitude in problem solving, including the ability to prioritize and execute multiple competing tasks
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Short-listed candidates will be required to undergo a practical assessment of their statistical and programming skills as part of the selection process.

Employment Type:
Full-time (35 hours/week), Contract12 months initially, with possibility of extension (with modified benefits)
