Manager, Building Services

Facility Management

Applicants are to clearly demonstrate how they satisfy the selection criteria in their written submissions

vacancies.

D U T I E S

Reporting to the Director of Facility Management, the successful candidate will provide direct leadership

to the Building Services and Grounds staff. The Manager, Building Services, is directly responsible for

implementing and managing all facets of Polytechnic's pre-approved cleaning

program, pest control contracts, external cleaning contracts, landscaping, grounds and parking lot

maintenance and snow clearing activities. Responsibilities include budget management, personnel and

contract management for each location where building services are provided by the College;

assessment, planning and management of staffing levels for each of the College's locations; providing

recommendations to the Director regarding capacity planning and operational demands and initiatives;

and creation, planning and implementation of Building Services and Grounds procedures, protocols,

scope of work and task assignments and projects. This position manages and enforces all aspects of

the WHMIS, Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety Act, and all Polytechnic policies

and procedures on cleaning services at each of the sites. This position supervises a group of

approximately 40 custodial and grounds staff.

R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S

  • Certificate in Business or Management; an equivalent combination of education and experience may

be considered

  • Several years of direct experience in the management of a large cleaning staff in a large scale, multi-

building environment

  • Experience with various human resource functions; including attendance support, performance

reviews, improvement plans and management

  • Experience with or knowledge of the Manitoba Employment Standard Acts and Regulations and

Collective Bargaining Agreement interpretation and application for all staff supports

  • Good knowledge of safe work procedures as defined in the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health

Act and Regulations (W210)

  • Experience managing budgets (forecasting, controlling, and providing recommendation to the

Director)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, in particular Excel)
  • Experience managing, implementing and negotiating enterprise-wide contracts
  • Exceptional analytical skills to provide sound recommendations to the Director in complex and urgent

matters

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to create solid connections and work effectively with

internal and external stakeholders

  • Excellent leadership, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

A S S E T S

  • Experience managing in an Educational, Health Care or Hotel/Hospitality setting in a unionized

environment

  • Experience managing in-house and outsourced personnel in a multi-location environment
  • Experience leading or managing a groundskeeping crew for a large and multi-location complex
  • Experience in managing grounds fleet and or custodial assets
  • Experience in submitting well organized, innovative Capital requests
  • Knowledge of sustainability and green building principles and Manitoba Green Building policy
  • Knowledge or experience working with work order systems

  • This position may be required to travel
  • May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
  • Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check

  • This position is required to hold a valid Manitoba Class 5 drive's licence
